Renaissance beauty

Renaissance is both an artistic movement and a period which took place in Italy in the 14th and 15th century. It ended in the end of the 16th century with the manierism. Renaissance is the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of the modern times.

Thanks to new sea routes, precious materials flocked such as sapphires and rubies from Ceylan, lapis lazulies, turquoises and silver from Mexico, diamonds from India and gold from Colombia. Leonardo da Vinci, Benvenuto Cellini, Wenzel Jamnitzer and Etienne Delaune were renowned goldsmiths during the Renaissance. The parure (jewels with common gemstones and patterns ; typically : necklace and earrings) was fashionable during the Renaissance.
