Wladyslaw Theodor Benda was a reputed illustrator during the golden age of American illustration. He was born in 1873, in Poznan, Poland. He moved to New York in 1902.
“He began his career in 1905 primarily an illustrator and graphic designer, contributing regularly to magazines such as Harper’s Weeklyand Good Housekeeping.” He also worked for Hearst’s International and the Shrine magazine.
His illustrations are endless graceful, The women are often the same facial characteristics : long neck, stretched out almond-shaped eyes, cupid-bow lips, fine and elongated eyebrows with a semicircle shape. The eyebrows are placed high on the forehead. An oval and elongated face and high cheekbones. The chin is small and slightly pointing. The front is broad and clear.
In 2019, i did a set “The Art Deco Lady” with an illustration of Wladyslaw Theodore Benda and Ilgiz Fazulzyanov earrings and pendant, Boucheron’s earrings (eyes).
In 2021, i also did another set “Art Deco elegance” with a Wladyslaw Theodor Benda’s illustration and my patterns (earrings and background).
