The costume designer Joanna Johnston

Joanna Johnston is a costume designer mainly know for her work on the movies “The man from U.N.C.L.E” directed by Guy Ritchie (2015), “Impossible mission – Rogue Nation” by Christopher McQuarrie (2015) and “The boat that rocked” by Richard Curtis (2009). She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume design in the Spielberg’s movie “Lincoln” in 2013 and for “Allied” in 2017.

In the great movie “The man from U.N.C.L.E“, Joanna Johnston created sixties mod outfits : Mini shift dresses, graphic and bold patterns, bright colours, Op art prints, big earrings and sunglasses… To design the Gaby’s wardrobe, she took inspirations from British Vogue spreads and from the 60’s icon Jean Shrimpton. And for Victoria, she drew on the 60’s model Marisa Berenson and Russian designers like Irene Galitzine.
