My photo of a wax mannequin displaying the shoulder jewelry known as the “Bérénice necklace,” the tiara, the earrings, and the brooch, all created by Cartier, featuring engraved Indian emeralds. The background is a design based on my photo of a leather notebook.
I took these photos at the exhibition “1925 – 2025 ONE HUNDRED YEAR / OF ART DECO” at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. It was a splendid exhibition.

“The Bérénice shoulder jewel was the highlight of Cartier’s presentation at the 1925 Exhibition. Created from emeralds, pearls, black enamel, and diamonds, the necklace was made up of six fully articulated sections that rested on the shoulders without any kind of fixation. The use of engraved Mughal emeralds shows the strong influence India had on Cartier during the 1920s, which drew on an Eastern repertoire without losing any of the rigorous geometry fashionable at that time. The piece remained unsold and was demounted into several pieces, today lost, with the exception of the central emerald.”
