Catherine Morland is a Jane Austen’s character in the novel Northanger Abbey (written between 1798 and 1803 but published after the Jane Austen’s death in 1817). This book has been adapted in a tv film starring Felicity Jones.
In this book, Jane Austen parodies gothic novels (romance and supernatural, very popular in the late 18th century and early 19th century. It tells the story of a young and candid woman (17 years old) named Catherine Morland who has a vivid imagination and loves gothic novels. The book follows her first steps in the polite society of Bath and her discovery of the Northanger Abbey (house of the wealthy family of her new friend Henry Tilney).
