Paraiba tourmaline jewelry

Paraiba tourmaline is a copper-bearing tourmaline. The name comes from the location where the stone was discovered : in the Brazilian state of Paraiba (city of Sao Jose da Batalha). This fine gemstone had been found in 1989 by the miner Heitor Barbosa.

The vivid blue green colour of the paraiba tourmaline is unique. It is the rarest tourmaline. Two other deposits were found in 2001 in Nigeria and in 2005 in Mozambique. However, the color isn’t exactly the same compared to the Brazilian paraiba tourmaline.
