A picturesque promenade in Montmartre

Walking on the hill of Montmartre is a delighful change of scenery even for the Parisians. Montmartre is famous for the Sacré Cœur Basilica, the narrow streets, the place du Tertre and for the beautiful view of Paris.

The Sacré Cœur Basalica designed by the architect Paul Abadie, is in the Romano-Byzantine style. 44 years have gone by since the first foundation stone until the inauguration (1875 -1919).

Its charming narrow and winding streets  give a lot of charm to Montmartre. This area is very picturesque with its sloping pathes. Wandering there is very pleasant thanks to its atmosphere of a small village.

The Place du Tertre is wellknown in the world for its painters, portraitists and its terraces. This place takes its name of its situation at the top of a butte.

This former village is also outstanding because it is a large hill which peaks at 130 metres in height.  Montmartre is the highest point of Paris. That’s why the view is spectacular and unique.
